THE 2018 SCORPIO WAXING MOON WANTS YOU TO MAKE MAGIC

In the wake of a heavy-hitting Eclipse season, the 2018 Scorpio Waxing Moon beckons us back into our magic, and reminds us of the potent divinity in pure desire, says Jennifer Racioppi

Waxing Quarter Moon / August 18 2018 / 3:48am EST / 25 degrees Scorpio

With some of the sweetest transits of the summer upon us, the 2018 Scorpio Waxing Quarter Moon brings a heavy dose of magic.

Ready to dig in? August 18th’s early morning opening square ushers in divinity, and reconnects us to the healing that happens when we embrace our deepest desires …

///

//The Cycle//
This Waxing Quarter Moon comes on the heels of the August 11 partial Solar New Moon Eclipse of Leo. This eclipse asked us to launch a vision that will carry us through the next 19 years. NBD, right?!

Given the intensity of the summer transits thus far—3 eclipses and 6 major planets in retrograde—the universe has been priming us to leave old patterns in the past and to begin to reach out for something new. The most recent eclipse provided the perfect opportunity to plant the seeds for a fresh beginning. What was stirring for you last weekend? How can you keep watering the seeds?

///

//The Transits//
With Jupiter, the planet of good luck and good fortune, in an exact trine to Neptune at the time of the Waxing Quarter Moon, truthfully, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

One of the sweetest aspects of 2018, and which will last through August 23, Jupiter trine Neptune (a water trine) brings deep healing and mystical potential. Further, with Mercury simultaneously stationing direct after a multi-week retrograde cycle, be prepared for your intuition to feel vibrantly lucid. Tap in and listen.

To sweeten the pot even more, Mercury sextiles loving Venus at the same time. Put your mind towards what you want to create. Now is the time to attune yourself to your deepest desires.

///

//The Square//
The Sun in fun-loving, fiery Leo, makes a challenging angle to the Moon in penetrative, watery Scorpio, both at 25 degrees. Yet, together, fire and water create steam.

While squares usually suggest curveballs and challenges, this one brings with it a deep sense of playful intimacy. Leo, after all, brings a heavy dose of fun, while Scorpio goes deep. Given the five-star aspects surrounding this waxing square, all signs point to this mash-up bringing a heightened creative and sexual tension that you can feel all the way to the bedroom—whether you’re playing solo or with a partner(s).

In terms of healing, this is also a potent time to dive into your shadow work. The Scorpio Moon won’t let you off the hook, while the Sun in Leo brings the courage to face any demons.

///

//The Opportunity//
This Waxing Quarter Moon brings with it an aura of holiness. Use it to get clear on your vision and take time to really commit to your goals.

Sanctify your time in such a way that you have space to digest what it is you really want. Be mindful of your speech. Journal out your difficult emotions. Commit to shining a light into your darkest shadows.

Don’t back down. Take a stand. And with your stake firmly in the ground, have some fun with it! With the Sun in Leo, Mercury stationing direct and sextile Venus, and Jupiter trines Neptune, the weekend has the feel of an astrological holy day. Embrace the intensity and dare yourself to enjoy it!

THE 2018 LEO NEW MOON ECLIPSE WANTS YOU TO RELIGHT YOUR FLAME

The 2018 Leo New Moon marks the grand finale of Eclipse Season, and asks us to reignite the passionate fire that has never left us, says Sandy Sitron

New Moon Solar Eclipse // August 11 2018 // 5:59 am ET // 18 degrees Leo

Orange light streams through a narrow opening in a cave wall. If you’re a brave spelunker, you can squeeze through and retreat into deeper chambers. You reach the core. The temperature rises. Here in the recesses of your subconscious mind, a central hearth fire burns.

It’s a magical fire that burns continuously without emission.

A cleansing fire. The fire of spirit. At this New Moon, you must connect with your spirit fire.

Leo is the sign that encourages you to share your true self with the world. Now is the time to set intentions about creativity, spontaneity, recognition, playfulness, sovereignty, and generosity. All of these themes have something to do with your fire offering. Your connection with your fire will help you make better decisions. It will help you supersede ego and be playful instead.

Before you can share your fire, you have to locate it in the recesses of your inner world. You have to journey deep within and simply trust that it’s there. Believe wholeheartedly in your uniqueness.

Because the 2018 Leo New Moon Eclipse is a time to begin anew, this is a powerful opportunity to reboot. Leo rules the sun. At the eclipse, the light of the sun is partially extinguished.

This is why the fire must be reignited.

Fan the flames of your hidden spirit fire by reconnecting with what makes you feel alive. Reignite your pleasure, passion, and self-expression. Without these themes as priorities, the season loses its glitter and sparkle. Boredom sets in.

Save yourself from monotony. Cure your apathy with creativity. Share your enduring sense of personal worth through creative expression. Kids are connected to the hearth fire within them. It’s what pushes them to continuously look for the next fun thing. They make and play, they’re impulsive and wild.

Journeying through the caves is like wandering through your memory to re-groove a path that already exists. How would your inner child like to express itself? Make changes in your environment and schedule so that there’s room for fun and play.

Burning bright is an ongoing practice. Do it because it’s fun to have fun! And because sharing your fire light with the world is the most generous thing you can do.

New Moon conjunct Mercury
Popcorn flies out of the pan.
There’s a flurry of mental activity. Some of the popcorn kernels are memories, some are ideas, some are worries, and some just moving thoughts. Which ones will you eat? Putting a lid on the pan and containing some of these thoughts might feel nice. If the heat and pressure are unchecked, you might mentally burn out—which would also cause an emotional flare. So turn down the heat when it’s time. Be gentle with yourself about what comes up. Remember, you are the chef. You’re in control of the whole process.

The starship dematerializes to travel at warp speed through time and space.
The intention is to reach your destination with your enthusiasm intact. A real transformation is available. Transcendence of some kind is beckoning. Imagine that you’re in that dematerialized spaceship. The only way you can guarantee that you’ll re-materialize is by holding a steady intention to live a full and creative light. The pressure is on. Show up and shine.

THE 2018 GEMINI NEW MOON WANTS YOU TO FREE YOUR MIND

The 2018 Gemini New Moon asks us to leave old mental patterns in the dust, and open wide to adventurous new connections and conclusions, says Sandy Sitron …

New Moon :: June 13 2018 :: 3:45 pm EST :: 22 degrees Gemini

Two strange visions. A small dusty switchboard is one option. The panel can make a finite number of connections. It looks outdated.

The other option is a vast field that stretches out to the horizon. Running across the field are a herd of horses. They spread out across the field. There is so much space to run. They are connected as a herd and they move in unison, but they do so instinctively.

The New Moon is the dark of the moon. A moment to embrace the unknown and open to entirely new potential. We can harness this energy by setting intentions. This New Moon presents some dramatic options. Will you stay in the old mental patterns like the circuits on the dusty switchboard? Or will you free yourself like the horses on the field?

Gemini is your mindset. The New Moon gives you the chance to come up with new additions and developments to your mental framework. If your brain is like a switchboard, the tendency is to run the same old connections. Right now the opportunity is to rewrite some of the code.

The message of this New Moon in Gemini is “strive to understand.”

When you strive to understand, you push yourself, you ask questions, you think about things from new perspectives. Maybe you find a teacher or a friend who can help you reframe a situation. You open yourself up curiously and you let go of an ego need to be right. Seeking understanding that roots down deeper than surface-level will help you break out of the old switchboard and create healthier new habits. This is the time.

Set intentions about how you want to think, communicate, listen and learn. This will help you experience mental freedom.

Put yourself on that vast field, no boundaries, thinking outside of the box. Come to adventurous new conclusions.

Moon inconjunct Pluto
An elephant in an English garden.

The New Moon its making an uncomfortable contact with the planet of transformation— Pluto. Think about which old program is ready for transformation. It could be quite obvious. Because the connection between the Sun-Moon conjunction and Pluto is a frustrating inconjunct aspect, it would be naive to expect the transformation to be simple or complete. At this time, the solution might not be forthcoming. Lean into the frustration of not being in control. It’s okay.

>>>

Moon square Neptune
Trying to siphon the ocean with a straw.

This symbol suggests that there is nowhere to put all of the emotion. You need time and patience. You may want a new perspective that offers emotional respite, but it has to sink in gradually.

With this New Moon square Neptune, your mental framework is shifting on conscious and subconscious levels. Give it time to happen.

Neptunian influence can be tiring. Remember that the message of this New Moon is to strive for understanding. The intentions are to find new ways of thinking. Let yourself be restful and not frantic in the process so that the transformation can sink in on all levels of mind. You don’t have to be in control, but you don’t have to swept away by your emotions either. Envision yourself in a state of spacious mental freedom. Connected with others like the herd of horses on the field, with room to move and exercise your mind.

THE 2018 VIRGO WAXING MOON WANTS YOU TO MAKE YOUR DREAM REAL

With the recent cosmic uproar caused by Uranus’ game-changing sign shift, the 2018 Virgo Waxing Moon is so welcome. Use this earthy energy to lean into your desires, allow for easeful progress, and make your dreams real, says Jennifer Racioppi ….

Waxing Quarter Moon // May 21 2018 // 11:49pm EST // 1 degree Virgo

Each Waxing Quarter Moons offers a moment to reflect on what has been seeded since the last New Moon. Think back to the most recent New Moon in Taurus on May 15th. What have you been growing?

With the Sun now in curious Gemini squaring the Moon, the 2018 Virgo Waxing Moon marks an opportunity to tune in to your desires, allow for ease, and gracefully overcome obstacles that stand in the way of manifesting your dream …

>>>

// The Cycle //
This Waxing Quarter Moon hollers back to the Great American Eclipse of August 21 2017. It’s been nine months since that massive eclipse shook things up—the appropriate gestation time to see the fruits of intentions set then. Just like babies in utero, Moon intentions have gestation periods as well. So look back to the Great American Eclipse, and ask yourself what intentions have been budding since then.

>>>

// The Transits //
Given the recent disruption caused by Uranus exiting Aries, the earthy trine between Uranus, now in Taurus, and the Virgo Moon is a welcome, supportive aspect. Use it to your advantage to help solidify progress and gains.

With Mars now in Aquarius, making a perfect angle to the Sun in early Gemini, allow for ease, motivation, and progress. In the days following the Virgo Waxing Moon, good-luck Jupiter makes an applying trine to Neptune, the planet of dreams, to support the manifestation of our desires. This aspect perfects on 5/25—lean into the winds of growth and abundance!

>>>

// The Square //
This Virgo Waxing Moon provides a stepping stone from curiosity (Gemini) into service (Virgo). While the Moon in Virgo might lean in the direction of perfectionism, now’s not the time to let the pressure to be perfect win. Instead, allow the Sun in the earliest degrees of Gemini to inspire curiosity and creativity, and lean into the Virgo Moon for support and devotion to your exploration.

>>>

// The Opportunity //
After a drama-drenched exit from Aries into Taurus, Uranus aligns perfectly with this Virgo Waxing Moon, inspiring you to lead your most revolutionary life.

Now’s not the time to fall into the trap of perfection (a Moon in Virgo tendency after all). Instead, go after what you most desire and allow Mars, who trines the Sun in Gemini, to support your ambitions. Despite the Moon traveling in fastidious rule-abiding Virgo, permit yourself to step out of the box and into your authenticity.

Think back to the Great American Eclipse of August 21 2017. What intentions did you plant then that you see sprouting now? How can you add even more positivity and mojo to your intended results? Allow this Virgo Waxing Moon moment to uplift and inspire. It hasn’t been easy (at all!) so lean into the plentiful support now at hand and claim make your dreams a reality!

THE 2018 TAURUS NEW MOON WANTS YOU TO FEEL SAFE IN YOUR BODY

The 2018 Taurus New Moon arrives just before revolutionary Uranus shifts signs for the first time in 8 years. The medicine amidst this transformative earthquake? Find stability in your beautiful body and create sustainable change, says Sandy Sitron

New Moon :: May 15 2018 :: 7:49 am ET :: 24 degrees Taurus

In subterranean gardens, crystals branch, bristle and grow. Layers ripple deep underneath the surface of the earth. Hidden away from light, the crystals are orderly, cool and safe. And it remains this way for many years.

When the earthquake hits, the gardens do the thing they were never meant to do. They move. And a new pattern of rock is formed. A new stability is attained.

Taurus is your stability, sustenance, and sustainability- the subterranean crystal garden within. Your inner knowing that with patience, trust and determination, you can create diamonds out of carbon.

Uranus, the Great Awakener planet, which finishes its 8 year cycle in Aries and moves into Taurus just after the New Moon, is the earthquake— the change that you were waiting for. Or the change that you didn’t anticipate. An awakening.

At this transformative New Moon, tectonic plates of your self-worth may be imperceptibly shifting. You have an opportunity to seed new visions for how you want to do Taurus. You might be readying yourself for a new way of thinking about how you want to live your life in a body.

Taurus reminds you that it’s your birthright to be safe in a body. Your self worth is inherent, natural, and fixed. It can be abundant if you trust in it. And knowing your worth will help you revel in the abundance of Mother Earth.

Set intentions for Uranus’ entry into Taurus. Let these intentions focus on changes that help your life become more sustainable, whatever that means to you. A revolutionary experience of your own self-worth. Breakthroughs around being present in your body and stimulated by your physical senses. Shocking yourself into slowing down and getting into receptive mode. A new way of viewing the energy of money.

Uranus in Taurus will shake you, prod you, and poke you until you welcome yourself home. Home to your body, home to your receptive nature and home to your self-worth.

Use this New Moon as a bridge to the other side of the crystalline chasm …

THE 2018 AQUARIUS WANING MOON WANTS YOU TO BE AUTHENTIC

Waning Quarter Moon // May 7 2018 // 10:08pm // 17 degrees Aquarius

We finds ourselves amidst massive change …

The Waning Quarter Moon is that sacred point in the lunar cycle when it’s time to let go. To surrender that which we no longer need.

Aquarius represents ingenuity, self-expression, freedom, creativity, progressive qualities, change, and the betterment of society.

Uranus, the planet of revolution and surprises that rules Aquarius, is getting ready to move into Taurus on May 15th (the same day as the Taurus New Moon). With Uranus in Aries for the last seven years, we’ve been living in an era defined by individualized innovation. In one week, we enter into a new paradigm that massively shifts the cosmic curriculum. We’re ready for enormous lessons around how to use our leadership capabilities fairly and justly, and in absolute alignment with what we value most.

Tuning in this Waning Quarter Moon will allow you to review your progress in all areas, and tune into self-care needs to navigate this transition with ease.

This Waning Moon wants you to stand in your authenticity …

>>>

// The Cycle //
This Waning Quarter Moon brings to fruition seeds planted back at the Aquarius New Moon on February 8, 2016. Think back to over two years ago and consider what has ripened in your life since then. Can you remember intentions you set for this particular New Moon?

Review and discern; what’s come to fruition now that relates to goals set then? What feels complete? Take time to wrap up loose ends now. Then, prepare!

>>>

// The Transits //
With the Sun opposing lucky, expansive Jupiter, there might be a tendency to overdo it. So be careful to set appropriate limits and boundaries.

Because Jupiter travels directly opposite the Sun at the time of the Quarter Moon, the Moon forms a fixed T-square with the Sun in Taurus and Jupiter in Scorpio. While this could feel like astrological gridlock, this aspect asks you to break free. The release point of this T-square, Leo, guides you to find the joy and play in the process.

With Uranus gearing up to leave Aries, we’re asked to integrate and assimilate the revolution of self. Use this to refine your capacity to emerge authentically as a leader, in spite of astro challenges!

>>>

// The Square //
With the Sun in grounded and stable Taurus, and the Moon in progressive Aquarius, this fixed square might highlight stubbornness.

Yet despite the grounded rootedness of the Taurus Sun, the revolutionary Aquarius Moon asks you not to clutch too tightly to the routine or to your ego. Instead, lean into the evolutionary and progressive qualities of the Moon, and ask the ego to step aside.

Leadership requires humility, and this square asks you to acknowledge what you don’t know in order to lean into becoming your best self.

>>>

// The Opportunity //
With Uranus primed to exit Aries, look at what you need to learn as it relates to your online engagement, offline leadership, and the ability to wildly and boldly claim who you are and what you love. Now’s not the moment to hide, but rather to learn and emerge, but to do so with honest humility.

Release the rigidity of needing to be right. In the words of the Beatles, it’s time to “Come Together.” And the only way to do that is to engage a practice of listening and mindful curiosity while maintaining your center and core.

The upcoming New Moon starts a massive new astrological chapter! Get ready, Numi-babes. The world is readying itself for a revolution …

THE 2018 ARIES NEW MOON WANTS YOU TO TAKE THE LEAP

The 2018 Aries New Moon wants you to set your intentions, spark the match, and take a calculated leap into a brand new way of being, says Sandy Sitron

New Moon :: April 15 2018 :: 9:57pm EST :: 26 degrees Aries

You stand on the edge of a diving board. In the action of jumping, two things happen: you leave behind the position that you knew, and you start developing a new arc.

Before you jump it helps to know your intention and direction. Where do you want to go? How do you want to act? Who are you becoming?

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. This is the birth, the awakening. The sparked match that starts a bonfire. Warm yourself in the toasty flames of your brilliant visions.

The past weeks have been combative. Can you orient yourself toward inspiration instead? Plant seeds around the actions you’ll take, the creations you’ll make, and the new ways that you’ll put yourself out there. Conceive your new beginnings.

At the time of this New Moon, Mercury stations direct. Let your jump unfold slowly. There will be action, but it needs to uncoil from within you. It can’t be forced or rushed. Feel into the energy of the leap.

The chart of this New Moon has no air and very little water. It’s a dry burn of earth and fire. Balance it through conversation, learning new things, journalling, and letting your feelings flow. Get your ideas and emotions moving. Take care to set intentions that are aligned with your soul and make room for surprises.

When you jump off the diving board, you are leaving solid ground behind. With this Moon squaring Pluto, you’re being asked to let old ways of being fall away. By trusting in the energy of regeneration, you will create more spaciousness and ease for yourself. If you notice yourself getting grippy or controlling, step back slowly. Turn toward enthusiasm and spontaneity instead.

As the Sun and Moon in Aries meet the Great Awakener, Uranus, you will shake things up. You will break free of old patterns. There will be innovation. Changes are triggered on all levels. Be alert to what is being jostled inside of you.

You’re getting ready to leap. And if you open yourself up to a new way of doing things, the jump might be fun …

Reevaluate your relationship with change. What’s the cost of keeping things the same? And alternatively, how are you benefitting by keeping things the same? Answering questions like these will raise your awareness about why you’ve been stuck. Now you’re ready to break into a higher level of consciousness and open up to a new way that may have once seemed like a fairy tale.

Trust in the next stage of the process. Let yourself go along with it. Once you turn your mind toward “allowing” the phase progresses and very soon, new information arrives. Allowing does not mean inaction. It means accepting what is so that you can gather better information about how to direct your life force. Watch, learn, allow, release, and tone yourself for aligned action.

THE 2018 PISCES NEW MOON WANTS YOU TO DREAM ON

The 2018 Pisces New Moon asks us to drift way beyond the rational, surrender to the mystery, and savor the last bit of sleep before the Spring Equinox awakening, says Sandy Sitron

New Moon :: March 17 2018 :: 9:14 am ET :: 26 degrees Pisces

It’s hard to put everything this New Moon has to say into words, because this moon has gone beyond verbal.

There are images that float by to describe what this New Moon is offering you…

Focus on your lungs. Focus on the beating of your heart. Imagine the blood moving through your veins. These movements of body are the basics. The basics of your life force are important to remember now.

Submerge your head underwater and watch the sea fronds wave gently. There’s another way of living than the way you are living now. Get yourself into a different headspace to feel it.

Constellations light up the night sky. You are connected and you are never alone. Sometimes it’s easiest to remember that through quiet mediation.

A baited hook tempts the hungry fish. Release old patterns of entrapment … what does it feel like to be ensnared in a pattern of passive aggressive behavior? How do you make yourself into a victim? What needs to be said out loud? Now is the time to let go of outdated patterns. The Pisces New Moon urges you to be more loving with yourself.

Pisces is the glittering fish that darts just out of sight. The fish is hard to grasp above the surface of the conscious mind. It’s easier to commune with Pisces energy just below consciousness— through emotions, intuition, creative expression and spiritual connection.

Set intentions that help you connect with your soul. This is the part of you that isn’t necessarily expressed through doing, striving or building. Rather, it’s the part of you that just is. Connect with who you are. Learn more about yourself by honoring the flow of your feelings and asking yourself deeper questions.

Over the past month we swam in a lot of Pisces energy. What is your take-away from the last month of emotional, intuitive, magical Pisces energy? What seed are you ready to plant?

This New Moon is the last dream before waking up. Soon, we are moving into more activated spring energy. Take some time this weekend to have a subtle experience. Listen. Grow quiet. Trust that you know more than you realize. Slow down. Open up space for yourself to just be. Be with yourself the way that you are now. Let yourself daydream and do nothing.

During this last moment of sleep, take note of what you learned from the dream.

Let yourself be quite vulnerable. Naked and exposed. And through this vulnerability there may be greater connection. That doesn’t mean that it’s always easy. The Pisces New Moon is dancing close to the wounded-healer asteroid Chiron, so we may be learning how to heal on deeper levels than we are used to. We have to make ourselves vulnerable in order to truly heal. We have walk toward the pain instead of away from it. This aspect is heightened by a nudge from change-agent Uranus and gently supported by expansive Jupiter.

We can’t try to control everything. There is surprising energy in the mix and it has the potential to help you connect with yourself in new ways. Look for the action that you can take to access deeper levels of emotional awareness. Look for a new place or experience that will shock you into becoming more comfortable with yourself. Don’t be afraid to follow the dog as it pulls on the leash. Let it show you something new.

>>>

New Moon trine Jupiter
A new color is discovered.
Help yourself expand in some way that you didn’t know was possible. Once you encounter this new way of thinking about your world, it will seem crazy to imagine life without it. Follow the guidance of the Pisces New Moon: be quiet and inward. Listen to your heartbeat. Connect with your emotions, dream and recover. Through these quiet actions, something may heal. A new door may open. Supportive Jupiter can help you integrate it all in a way that may be familiar and exotic at the same time.

THE 2018 AQUARIUS NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE WANTS YOU TO SURPRISE YOURSELF

The 2018 Aquarius New Moon Solar Eclipse asks us to pause, inhale, and get ready for spectacularly surprising change, says Sandra Sitron

Photo: Erik Odiin

New Moon :: February 15 2017 :: 4:06 pm EST :: 27 degrees Aquarius

This Moon is like an inhale. It says breathe in deep. Hold your breath. And wait ..

Aquarius is the innovator. The awakener. Aquarius helps us break down conventions and traditions so that we can find a better way of being. This energy is erratic and spectacular, like a breath of fresh air and a dazzling surprise. There is a pause that happens in the moment of surprise. A sharp inhale followed by speechlessness.

Eclipse energy is like that pause. At this New Moon Solar Eclipse, the Sun’s constant light is blocked. It’s like the engine cuts out for a moment before it must be restarted. When you restart the engine, you have to wait to let it rev up.

With this Moon conjunct Mercury, the pause brings clarity and you could stumble upon a brilliant idea for a new direction. The clarity might take a couple of days to fully form, but the seed is planted.

It can be very uncomfortable to wait. Use this moment of pause to circle back and remember the issues that came up August 21 2017, at the Leo Solar Eclipse. Ca you see a link to your current situation? Don’t fight it. Allow it. Let yourself be exactly where you are. Two forces are colliding here. The force of change and the force of patience. Let this shift bloom within you without needing it to be more defined than it is.

Use this time to explore your relationship to change. As the Moon locks into an aspect of creative tension with optimistic Jupiter, ask yourself: how would you like to feel instead? If you can get one step ahead of yourself and visualize a new way of life, your chance of catching that lucky high Jupiter vibration is magnified.

And then lean into the unknown. Lean into the darkness. A brilliant seed of an idea might just be there hoping to meet you.

Wait inside the inhale. The exhale is coming …

Clarity is coming. Your priority at this time is to lean toward logic. Make decisions that are objective if possible. See the situation for what it actually is. Cut through to the truth.

There is a lot to learn at this time. Embrace your curiosity. You must continue to develop your mind, breaking down old beliefs and embracing new ones.

>>>

New Moon square Jupiter
Chewing gum and blowing a bubble.
There is room for expansion here. The key is to not let the bubble break. With erratic energy coming through right now, the tendency is to be impatient. That’s the moment that the bubble pops. If you choose to go this route by making the snap decision, it will probably all work out fine in the end.

But there is another option which involves more patience. See if you can lean into the expansion without blowing it all up. Savor the moment of intensity while you gather more information about the situation. You can always make your decisions later.

WHY FEBRUARY IS THE MOST FEMINIST MONTH

It’s time to upgrade your normative notions of Valentine’s Day date nights. Lucy North tells us why why February is the most feminist month … Art: Naro Pinosa

lucy north ruby warrington feminist february the numinous material girl mystical world naro pinosa
Art: Naro Pinosa

It may still feel cold outside—but Spring is coming! And this precious period of in-between is actually a key time of year to tap into the Divine Feminine through the ancient practice of co-creating with Gaia, the seasons, and nature.

While many of us have sold ourselves to the Monday-Friday lifestyle, the origins of these days actually connect us to Divine Feminine energy. After all, Monday is actually “Moonday” and Friday is dedicated to the Goddess Freyja. The Divine Feminine is both the beginning and the end, and a reminder of our power to break free and make time be whatever we want.

In response to the seven-day week of patriarchal DOING, here are seven reasons to reclaim February as the most powerfully feminist month …

>>>

1// V.Day Actually Celebrates Your Erotic Sovereignty
Before it was renamed by the Roman Catholic Church, Valentine’s Day was originally known as “Freyja’s Day.” Freyja was the Pagan Goddess not of romantic, but of erotic love, and on February 14th women would hand out cards to as many men as they desired.

Transcending the gender stereotypes of today, women were seen not only the gateway to new life, they were considered at one with the desire, love, and sexual energy that runs through nature. Reclaiming this celebration of women as desire itself (rather than objects), realigns us with our ability to create anything we want.

>>>

2// 28 Days Means Lunar Power
Before being scrapped by the Church, the year adhered to the Goddess calendar—meaning there were 13 months and not 12, which reflected the 28 day cycle of both the Moon and womb.

Being only 28 days long, February is the only month of the year that still respects the Goddess calendar, and honors how the seasons and year really flow. This month, treat your womb like a second heart (whether or not you have a literal or metaphorical space there). Listen … what does it want to birth?

lucy north ruby warrington feminist february the numinous material girl mystical world naro pinosa
Art: Naro Pinosa

>>>

3// Imbolc Challenges the Madonna-Whore Complex
The pagan calendar marks February 1st as Imbolc—an important step towards March’s Spring Equinox. This is the time to release some of our 9-to-5 programming in favor of a kind of “land feminism” that lets us co-create with the upcoming Equinox’s tantric energy.

The Celtic Triple Goddess Brigid, synonymous with this day, is the Queen of the Underworld, the Mother of all beings, and the Mistress of the Elements. Whether it’s the sacred prostitute, the Divine Mother or the snake in the garden of Eden, the Divine Feminine holds and honors it all. Think of February as a time to break free from the pain of having to be “one type of woman”—and to exchange archetypal constraints for a wildish knowing.

>>>

4// Pisces Season Wants You to Wombifest
As the Sun enters the final zodiac sign of Pisces on February 19th, right before the birth of the new astrological year, it’s time to create a nourishing, protective womb that will enable you to tap into the oceanic source of all life.

This means retreating from the “busy-ness” of everyday life, and setting some boundaries to re-connect with your soul. Just like a mother that needs to retreat for the last month of pregnancy, create a safe space for you as Divine Mother to meditate, breathe, make love, self pleasure, journal, paint, sing, do yoga, and eat well. Rest in the womb and let your Divine Child emerge!

>>>

5// Saturn in Capricorn Spells Sacred Union Time
2018’s sees the Goddess month of February with Saturn in the sign of Capricorn, spelling out the start of something huge for the Divine Feminine. Capricorn is technically a “yin,” or feminine sign, but it’s also cardinal, with a mountain-building, masculine energy that asks us to blend action and intuitive knowing.

The Divine Masculine can only come THROUGH the Divine Feminine. It will only come through an open heart and the womb of collective feeling—and, yes, as with any birth, through pain. Women and those who embrace the Divine Feminine have been socially okay’ed to feel more of this, so we must lead the way. This integration asks us to do what we love by taking action, and watch the fear fly away.

6// The Aquarius New Moon Catapults Us Into Fairy Territory
When people are told they’re “away with the fairies,” it’s almost a derogatory comment. We say it’s time to celebrate our visits with the fairy realm!

With a New Moon in Aquarius on February 15th, it’s time for the Divine Feminine to swoop high, dream big—and to astro travel our dreams into the 3rd dimension. This New Moon also ends the longest complete lunar month of 2018 (the last New Moon was on January 16th, giving us 29 days, 18 hours, and 48 minutes). Mama Moon is giving you extra time to push on through, with a clear focus on new beginnings.

>>>

7// Mama’s Wide Open During Eclipse Season
With January 31st’s Super-Blue-Blood Lunar Eclipse bonanza, and the upcoming Solar Eclipse on February 15th, the first two weeks of Feb see us in the middle of two incredibly catalytic aspects. It’s like the universe has its legs wide open in breach position providing a gateway though which we can birth projects, artistic endeavors, networks, and relationships that reflect our divine purpose.

Goddesses: F is for February, F is for Fertility, F is for the future. Reclaiming feminist February means pretty much get it on with the universe!

THE 2018 CAPRICORN NEW MOON WANTS YOU TO CHART YOUR COURSE

The 2018 Capricorn New Moon marks a powerful fork in our roads. Face up to yourself, draw clear boundaries, and chart your course into a brand new reality, says Sandra Sitron

New Moon :: January 16, 2018 :: 9:18pm EST :: 26 degrees Capricorn

Walk along the mountain path and navigate craggy edges. Arrive at a fork in the road …

It’s time to plan. Map out your desires. What do you want to achieve? How do you want to feel? When you’re done looking at the big picture, you’ll know which way to go. For now, wait at the fork.

The Capricorn mountain path is earthy. It smells like soil and new grass. It’s drenched in shadow for a moment as the Sun and Moon meet for the Dark Moon. But your dreams for where you want to go aren’t in the dark. Seed them. Take the time to imagine them.

How have the last few weeks of Mountain Goat effort have felt? Examine everything you’ve learned in the past that might inform your future path. Maybe now you’re better informed and you can make a solid plan.

Capricorn filters the world through goals and ambition, and helps you decide which ladder you want to climb. If you are burnt out or overwhelmed, it’s time to encourage yourself come up with a better system. If you are feeling stable and surefooted on your mountain path, the goat is leading you in the right direction.

With Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio making a supportive angle to the Capricorn herd of planets, your medicine comes when you turn toward your emotions instead of hide from them. Face yourself honestly. What has been working? What isn’t working any longer?

If you are being tested, it’s because Capricorn limitations are asking you to get clear about what you truly want. What will you say “yes” to? What needs a solid “no”?

The Capricorn Moon can help you make a new plan grounded in realism. As we move into Aquarius season you can take this plan and make it even more visionary so that you surprise yourself into a better reality …

You may find that you want to take action on this New Moon, although the time is better suited to planning. Find outlets for your energy. Exercise, have a dance party, try breathwork, or do something creative. Give the fire somewhere to go.

THE 2017 SAGITTARIUS NEW MOON WANTS YOU TO TAKE AIM

New Moon :: December 18, 2017 :: 1:31 am ET :: 26 degrees Sagittarius

Wipe the sweat from your brow. Look around. The fight is long and hard. Take a momentary break and reassess. What are you fighting for? What do you believe in?

As you take a step back, get grounded and quiet for a moment. It’s okay to push. But have you been fighting with yourself without quite knowing why? Pushing yourself without knowing what you even want to achieve?

Sagittarius is the archer, pointedly asking— “What are you shooting for?” With this Sagittarius New Moon, the message is clear: you must align with your purpose.

So what IS your mission? Start by thinking about your values. What do you believe is missing, or under-represented in the world? What gets you fired up inside? And what do you need to learn to bring those values into action? Who do you need on an emotional level to become to be the highest version of yourself?

Clarity around these issues won’t come unless you ask for it. And so the first step now is to get clear about your goal. You can’t make the plan until you know the goal.

Typically, Sagittarius is an easy-breezy sign. Bouncy like a beach ball. With Sagittarius, anything is possible. But this particular New Moon is conjunct Schoolteacher Saturn, just before he marches into Capricorn. Saturn has been in Sagittarius for about three years, and it’s been a wild ride that has pushed many people to redetermine their values. What have you learned about yourself and your world over the last three years? Let this inform you now.

A shift is about to happen and we are heading into a new cycle of growth. Decide where you want to shoot your arrow. Fan the spark of your passion and help it grow into the expanding flame of a whole new direction …

>>>

A goat sits in a meadow.
The goat is quiet and a little bit dreamy. But soon he will start to climb. And when he begins, nothing will stop him. Can you harness that desire to ascend? The goat always yearns to go higher. He does it without self-flagellation or self-pity. He just gets to work.

But for now, be still. Sit and ponder. Don’t be hard on yourself or get trapped in a mindset of perceived isolation or self-doubt. Find alignment with yourself. Notice an urge to plan and brush it off if you can. When the moment is right, you will know exactly what you need to do to climb the mountain.

Receive a state of enlightenment through meditation and allowing yourself to feel all your feelings. Nurture yourself and let yourself drift toward greater clarity of mind, body and spirit.

New Moon :: November 18 2017 :: 6:24 am ET :: 26 degrees Scorpio

A mountain is moving aside. It’s creaking and squealing on a hidden mechanism to reveal a dusty trapdoor leading into the depths of the earth.

Are you ready to take a risk and travel into the unknown region of your psyche? Are you willing to be vulnerable and face the challenges of the season?

The opening of this secret passageway is a rare occurrence. And if you venture forth, you’ll go deeper than you’ve ever gone before. It may be a frightening journey, but your guides are waiting.

Pause and consider how this metaphorical journey into the depths of your psyche is showing up in your life right now. However it’s happening, the overall message of this New Moon is to trust in transformation.

These challenges may relate to emotional sharing and release, being truly seen for who you are, sexual healing, psychological transformation, forgiveness, and empowerment. Settle into a quiet place. Find a moment to set new intentions for these Scorpio themes.

If you want to go through the secret passageway beneath the mountain, you must let go of control.

And when you’ve completely faced your fear, you’ll find hidden resources of water— a thermal hot spring of emotional truth and intuitive trust …

New Moon :: October 19 2017 :: 3:12pm EST :: 26 degrees Libra

Crimson, vermillion, and pale pink. A flamingo stands in a marsh, deftly balanced on one leg. Soon, the bird dozes off, nestling into flame-colored feathers, becoming even more balanced as consciousness fades to sleep …

This Libra New Moon is a balancing act. As the only sign of the zodiac that is a machine (not an animal or person), Libra shows that when the scales are equally weighted, harmonious stillness is the automatic result.

In the focused silence of this moon, we find out what areas of our lives need calibration. The relationships that are off-kilter. The life areas that may spiral out of control if left untended.

This process may feel overwhelming. So slow it down for a second. Take a deep breath of relief. This New Moon is not trying to add another thing to your to-do list. This New Moon does not need you to “get it together.”

For those of us who are always working hard to stay balanced, this might seem strange. It’s the paradox of this New Moon, especially when the Moon’s opposition to Uranus, the Great Awakener, shows us where harmonious stillness does not abound.

But watch the flamingoes. Curiously, the birds are more secure in their stance when they are balanced on one leg. It’s a more stable position! The act of balancing requires less effort.

While balancing might seem like more work, once you have achieved it, everything becomes easier …

Anything out of balance must fall away.

Let yourself be ready for change. Let yourself be ready for balance. Remember that you are on a journey and this is one phase. This is another moment to peel back the onion of personal and collective healing. Don’t stop now. The old way is no longer comfortable.

MOONERS & SHAKERS: THE MOON CLUB MEMBER MAKING REAL NEWS

In an era of alternative facts, Girlboss.com editorial director and Moon Club member Jerico Mandybur is committed to making real news, and giving every voice an equal platform to be heard. Just like the righteous “witchy bitch” she is …

Banging on the system …
Women and femmes have so much knowledge, centuries of wisdom, and life experiences that have yet to really be accepted widely, let alone embraced. So I’m all for banging on the system to make that happen in whatever way I can.

I’m a firm believer in amplifying the voices of ‘othered’ people in media, rather than speaking on behalf of anyone. I hope to contribute to making that the norm. Rather than the prevailing cultural norm that a straight white male TV presenter is the only arbiter of objective discussion and ‘rational debate,’ I hope to cultivate spaces for marginalized voices online and make those voices the norm.

Speak for yourself …
My best advice for anyone looking to use their voice? To quote Nike (lol), ‘Just do it.’

Ignore your fear, allow yourself to be uncomfortable, always question your own assumptions, and don’t speak on behalf of anyone whose experience you haven’t lived.

Be yourself. And to quote the Gumbainggir activist and academic Gary Foley, remember that, ‘The battle begins at home.’

Key issues rocking our world …
Consumerism has an amazing way of co-opting countercultural sentiments and protest movements into a system of domination, by using them to sell us more ‘stuff’ and/or distraction. This is the greatest challenge for new age and spiritual movements too, and I’m not sure it’s one that can be overcome while capitalism is still a thing. At least until something catastrophic happens …

Suffice it to say, the extent of humans’ environmental destruction is becoming more and more apparent. This is one area (of so many) where Indigenous people’s knowledge of— and relationship with—the land is something all of humanity needs to learn from and respect right now.

Spiritual activism is bigger than we think …
Spirituality means you have an understanding of what you’re defending that’s ‘bigger’ than you, and your lifetime. It connects you with people, and with life, in a way that goes beyond what you can see and touch.

Also, you can’t call yourself a spiritual person if you turn a blind eye to other’s suffering. That’s not a thing! But I also really believe you have to heal yourself before—or, as—you heal other people.

Moon Club is a sisterhood of witchy bitches …
Moon Club is my way of bringing more structure to my spirituality. It gives me that extra nudge to maintain a deep relationship with the Moon. I really enjoy feeling part of a sisterhood of witchy bitches, who have each other’s backs, even if they live on opposite sides of the planet.

It has inspired me to give less fucks about being my bizarre, woo woo self publically.

I used to be nervous about telling people I read tarot cards and studied astrology, at work, or online. It was my last frontier of authenticity. Now I don’t shut up about it. And that’s pretty powerful!
