Join Numinous Books author Anna Wood for an intima Join Numinous Books author Anna Wood for an intimate fireside chat with audio self-care app @wearequilt tomorrow night. Link to listen in our bio. PLUS here's what Anna had to say on finding her voice as a a pro-choice advocate and author... Q: What do you do or say when people express critical opinions of your pro-choice advocacy? Anna: Usually in this situation I have to check my attitude right off the bat, and remind myself that I've judged people or had (have) strong opinions about people's actions or positions. I use this to remind myself that on some level, I'm just like them. Beyond that, I cite the majority opinion on the Roe v. Wade case (I did in the book too). The justices make a pretty good case, saying: ""We need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins. When those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy, and theology are unable to arrive at any consensus, the judiciary … is not in a position to speculate as to the answer."" Bottom line, some people want to have a conversation about this, and some people just want to rage. If they want to rage, I figure it is probably not me as an individual that they are actually upset about. Get your copy of Anna's book, I've Had One Too, wherever you buy your books online
"By the time abortion entered my consciousness, I "By the time abortion entered my consciousness, I had been indoctrinated by the collective shame around it, and knew it was something good girls didn’t do. Until I did it myself."" - Anna Wood, I'VE HAD ONE TOO. So what would Anna Wood tell the woman who chose to have an abortion - the hardest choice she ever had to make - today? ""I love you. No matter what. I would gently remind myself of that."" What situation from your past can you send yourself love and forgiveness for today?
""My breakup with Instagram was simple, really. My ""My breakup with Instagram was simple, really. My husband noticed my habit of scrolling with glazed eyes while holding my breath. He reflected back to me what he saw, “It’s like you’re in rabid panic mode when you’re on there.” He was right. My energy felt totally off when I interacted with Instagram. I’d hold my breath as I scrolled through the accounts of people I didn’t remember following. I’d obsessively refresh to see if I’d gotten another like. Shame poured in when a post I spent an hour on got two comments. It felt like walking back into my high school cafeteria with my bright red face. I didn’t feel like me. So I deleted my account and really it felt like a solution! For a little while… But it didn’t solve my problem, especially as an entrepreneur. For sensitives who use social media as a place to market their businesses and services, the imperative to remain on social media as a promotional tool poses a real challenge. It wasn’t until I set the old way of doing things free—deleting my Instagram account and determining to reset that relationship—that new ways to engage with social media have opened up for me."" ""I'm pro-choice but I'd never have one myself."" ""I'm pro-choice but I'd never have one myself."" This belief caused Anna Wood so much shame when she found herself making the hardest decision of her life: to end her pregnancy. In a special book club guide Anna created for I've Had One Too, she asks: ""Think of one preconceived notion you have about yourself based on a societal norm (could be body image, a gender norm, an action you have taken in your life that is taboo). Hold your thought of yourself based on who society thinks you should be. Now imagine that construct never existed. Who would you be? How would you feel?""
