It is a strange time to be a content creator. The platforms creatives have come to rely on to share our work are often dehumanizing, manipulative, and hierarchical. The pressure to always have "something to say" can lead to reactionary, ill-considered, and ultimately harmful responses to issues that actually require extensive research, deep contemplation and heartfelt empathy. On top of this, information overload can be a major contributor to anxiety. Even the most well-intentioned and non-salesy article, post, or share is asking for a slice of your attention—attention which, in times like these, is no doubt already stretched to breaking point in tending to the very real, material world issues we currently find ourselves faced with. In trying to strike a balance between tending our own wellbeing, and being there for others. All of which has factored into the decision to take this newsletter monthly going forward. Expect a curated and (hopefully) helpful mix of articles, offers, and astro + tarot insights, roughly coinciding with the start of each astrological season. We'll also continue to share the latest updates on releases from Numinous Books. TEXT Reminder: there ARE people in the political system who believe in justice and they are doing the work on our behalf. And: we must match this by continuing with our own inner healing work of dismantling white supremacy where it continues to live in us. As @iamrachelricketts reminded in her post yesterday, what happened to Breonna Taylor would never have happened to a white woman. She writes: “Can you imagine a world where a white woman is shot by three Black officers and left to bleed out in her room without recourse? Nope. Because whiteness would never stand for it. This decision is appalling, without question, but it is not shocking. This is the system working as designed. To steal and discard Black life.” Counting the days until Libra AOC is eligible to run for president… and also not exactly holding our breath for top-down systemic change to happen. For now, white people need to keep on keeping doing better. Yes, VOTE. But most importantly take your blinders off. Notice when you look away, and WHY. Allow yourself to feel your fear + your shame about this. Educate yourself on the historical influences still at play today that mean Breonna Taylor’s murderers go unpunished.
